DESCRIPTION:DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THIS MEETING HAS BEEN POSTPONED.\n\n \n\n9.00 am          \n\nCoffee and Registration\n\n9.30 am          \n\nThe Annual General Meeting of the Section of Medicine will take place immediately prior to the symposium to formally elect new Office bearers and members of Council.\n\n9.35 am  - 12.30 pm     \n\nThe programme will include the following talks:\n\nTheme: Pharmacological obesity management      \nProfessor Akheel Syed, Consultant Endocrinologist, NCA Foundation Trust (Salford Royal Hospital)\n\nCystic Fibrosis; Carnage to cure?            \nProfessor Kevin Webb, Clinical Director, Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Wythenshawe Hospital South Manchester\n\nTalk synopsis: \n\nThis talk will cover the evolution over 45 years of the Regional Manchester Adult CF centre based at Wythenshawe hospital. The complexities  of multisystem disease and the requirements for multidisciplinary care will be discussed. The political difficulties of setting up the unit and maintaining funding will be covered. Finally recent life changing therapeutic advances will be considered.\n\nLearning objectives:\n\nCystic fibrosis is an inherited genetic disease (autosomal recessive). The basic    genetic defect  is expressed in all  ductal systems  causing multisystem pathology.Focused Multidisciplinary care is crucial for survival and requires dedicated facilitiesRecent genetic therapeutic advances (modulators) may extend survival in CF adults by decades and potentially provide a cure for paediatric CF  patientsFurther speakers to be confirmed.\n\n \n\n
