It was a response to an increasing interest in patient safety from the profession, the media, patients and politicians. It was a consensus of what was thought necessary to improve Patient Safety in Anaesthesiology in Europe. It soon attracted worldwide interest and was eventually signed by over 200 national societies and other healthcare related bodies including patient organisations and industry. Although still applicable today there have been new advances and it has been decided to update it and launch this later in 2025. The lecture will discuss the development of the Declaration its contents and planned new additions.\n\nThe Helsinki Declaration on Patient Safety in Anaesthesiology.
