The CBTp Puzzle: Benefits, Limitations and Controversies
Professor Keith R Laws, Professor of Cognitive Neuropsychology, School of Life and Medical Sciences, University of Hertfordshire
Brief synopsis:
During the last two decades NICE have endorsed CBT as the key psychological intervention to be offered to all people diagnosed with schizophrenia. Nevertheless, the supporting evidence for CBT to alleviate the symptoms of schizophrenia has become more controversial over time. This talk will present some of the key meta-analytic evidence, including that presented by NICE and Cochrane. It will also discuss whether some factors beyond the evidence might contribute to the sustaining the idea that CBTp is an effective intervention for the symptoms of psychosis.
