Anaesthesia
Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Pain & Perioperative Medicine
The Section of Anaesthesia runs several face-to-face and online meetings per year which are highly regarded and free of charge to Society members. These offer an excellent opportunity to hear local, regional and national speakers cover a broad range of general and sub-specialty topics covering all aspects of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Pain and Perioperative Medicine. One of the meetings incorporates the annual trainee’s prize and is supported by the North West School of Anaesthesia. There is an annual joint meeting with the Liverpool Society of Anaesthetists and a joint meeting with the Yorkshire Society of Anaesthetists every other year. Members of the Section are also entitled to attend meetings of all other Sections of the Society. The Section of Anaesthesia has a fund - The Andrew Hunter Fund – which is to support trainees travelling abroad for charitable organisations.

History
The Section of Anaesthesia within the Manchester Medical Society is the lineal descendant of the Manchester and District Society of Anaesthetists which came into being in 1945. It became one of the sections of the re-formed Manchester Medical Society in 1950 when the Manchester and District Society of Anaesthetists became incorporated into the Society. The objects of the Section are to spread the knowledge and enhance the practice of anaesthesia; to afford a medium for the exchange of ideas; and to promote harmony and good fellowship among anaesthetists.
Topics and Speakers
The Section Council welcomes suggestions and recommendations of topics and potential speakers for future meetings.
Any Society members with suggestions are encouraged to contact the Section or Society Secretariat at admin@mms.org.uk.
