  • To  apply these NHS plans to your own health and care role
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of major incident planning for learning and improvements

Benefits and pitfalls of CT Imaging  for people with head injury attending emergency departments
Professor Fiona Lecky, Honorary Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Salford Royal Hospital in the Northern Care Alliance 

During the lecture the 2023 NICE Head Injury imaging guidance will be reviewed from the perspective of the quality of the underpinning evidence including implementation studies in adults and children

We will consider and counterbalance the issues of need for rapid diagnosis to enable time critical neurosurgery and reversal of anticoagulation and resource challenges associated with  the "silver tsunami" of older fallers attending the emergency department. 

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the current indications for CT  head and C spine scans in NG 232

  • Understand the underpinning evidence supporting NG 232 recommendations
  • Understanding the  challenges concerning the implementation of NICE imaging recommendations

  • Develop and refine your personal checklist for body trauma
  • Deepen your recognition of common and less-common findings
  • Understand why patterns of injury occur

This course provides 2 CPD Credits in accordance with the CPD Scheme of the Royal College of Radiologists.
