“But what is really causing my symptoms?” New insights into some poorly understood conditions

Patients with poorly understood conditions are not always well served in the healthcare system, for complex reasons. This Symposium will explore the “state of the art” for some of these situations.

The expert speakers are:

  • Professor Chris Burton is Professor of Primary Medical Care (University of Sheffield) and a GP with a particular research interest in persistent physical symptoms, their mechanisms and clinical communication about them. He will share his recent work in this field, important for practitioners in so many specialities.

  • Professor John McLaughlin is Professor of Gastroenterology and Nutrition (University of Manchester) whose research spans many aspects of GI physiology in health and disease. He will discuss Bile Acid Diarrhoea (BAD) – common and often unrecognised, leaving patients with unmet needs.
  • The Telford Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Professor Nawar Bakerly, Respiratory Physician (Northern Care Alliance) and Greater Manchester Lead for Long COVID research. He will update us on emerging knowledge about Long COVID, which since the pandemic is estimated to have affected millions of people in the UK and world-wide.

All attendees will receive a CPD certificate of attendance
