Talk Synopsis:

  • An overview of the involvement of Greater Manchester’s anaesthetists in the clinical management of major trauma, from the roadside to the operating theatre, ICU and ward.
  • A description of anaesthetists’ ongoing involvement in leadership of major trauma services, and strategic major trauma reconfiguration.

Trust your gut: Perioperative management for Intestinal Failure

Talk synopsis:

The presentation focuses on the perioperative management of patients undergoing surgery for Intestinal failure. This will include the pre-operative care received via the Intestinal Failure team (provided by Mr McWhirter), including anaesthetic involvement. The talk will then provide detail on the intra-op anaesthetic management and post-op care considerations, including the possible issues and complications we encounter.

Talk Synopsis:  

An overview of some of the tertiary and quarternary work being conducted at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and the anaesthetic challenges.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain insight into the indications for advanced vascular access techniques being used in paediatrics
  • Consider the challenges of anaesthesia for rare complex conditions, including the importance of an MDT approach
  • Appreciate the current 'hot topics' in paediatric anaesthesia with relevance to non-tertiary paediatric anaesthetists.
