Nearly everyone has a smartphone and a health watch these days and there are a myriad of wearable, medical grade, vital signs monitors.  So why don't we see more of them in anaesthesia and critical care?  In this talk we'll review the good, the bad and the ugly of wearable monitoring. What is the potential of these devices?  What are the barriers to adoption?  What might we expect in 2040?

‘The Helsinki Declaration on Patient Safety  Anaesthesiology’

Talk synopsis:

The Helsinki Declaration on Patient Safety in anaesthesiology was written by the European Board of Anaesthesiology (EBA) and launched at the Euroanaesthesia Congress in Helsinki 14th of June 2010. It was a response to an increasing interest in patient safety from the profession, the media, patients and politicians. It was a consensus of what was thought necessary to improve Patient Safety in Anaesthesiology in Europe. It soon attracted worldwide interest and was eventually signed by over 200 national societies and other healthcare related bodies including patient organisations and industry. Although still applicable today there have been new advances and it has been decided to update it and launch this later in 2025. The lecture will discuss the development of the Declaration its contents and planned new additions.
