Dr Jessica Wan, Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases, Manchester University NHS FT
Talk Synopsis:
High consequence infectious diseases (HCID) are rare infections that are associated with high infectivity and case-fatality rates. Any healthcare facility with unplanned urgent care services should have a plan in place in case of a patient presenting with a suspected HCID, to minimize infection spread to staff and other patients. This talk will summarise when to suspect HCID in a febrile child, next steps to take once HCID is suspected, and the unique considerations when you plan for their assessment and management. This talk will also include an introduction to the new Paediatric ID department at MFT, and how to access ID clinical advice in and out of hours.
