Anaesthesia Trainees' Prize 2025 - CLOSING DATE 24th January 2025

The prize is open to trainees, clinical fellows and staff grade/associate specialist anaesthetists in the North West Region. Foundation doctors and ACCS trainees are encouraged to enter. All entrants must be members of the Manchester Medical Society (Join On-line).  CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES: FRIDAY 24TH JANUARY 2025.

Consideration will be given to entrants who are time expired trainees and not in a substantive consultant post provided that the project was undertaken during their time as a trainee. 

Trainee representatives on the Section Council are permitted to enter for the prize. Projects completed with Section Council members as co-authors will also be considered.

Submissions can be original research, audit, service developments, or case reports.  Submissions may have been presented elsewhere but should not normally have been published in peer-review journals prior to presentation.  Submissions that have been submitted to, or accepted by journals, but not yet published will be considered.

Submissions should be summarised in no more than 500 words and submitted electronically, as a Word Document, on one side of A4 and entered before the given closing date.  Pictures/diagrams are permitted but should be contained within the side of A4.  The applicant should detail their personal contribution made to the project.  Late entries will not be accepted.

All Council members of the Section (barring the trainee representatives) are involved in short listing.  Council member’s decisions on short listing are final.  No correspondence can be entered into.

There is a Prize of £250 for the winner and a runner-up prize of £100

The papers selected will be presented by the authors at a FACE TO FACE meeting of the Section of Anaesthesia on the afternoon of Thursday 27th February 2025 in the MANDEC.  Entrants should ensure that they would be able to present on this date. Presentations should take no longer than 10 minutes with a further 5 minutes for questions and entrants should state his/her precise involvement in the project.
